Tertiary recovery

Tertiary recovery, a technique used to enhance the recovery of crude oil from an oil field, is achieved by gas injection, chemical injection, ultrasonic stimulation, microbial injection, or thermal recovery. Usually the use of the energy of the oil reservoir to extract oil is called primary recovery; injection of water and gas into the oil reservoir to supplement the energy of the oil reservoir to extract oil is called secondary recovery; and the use of chemical substances to improve the performance of the oil, gas, water, and the rock with each other, to extract more oil, is called tertiary recovery. It is also known as enhanced recovery (EOR) method.

There are many ways to improve oil recovery, mainly the following: injection of surfactants; injection of polymer thickened water; injection of alkaline water drive; injection of CO drive; injection of alkali plus polymer drive; injection of inert gas drive; injection of hydrocarbon mixed-phase drive; fire oil reservoirs; injection of steam drive and so on. The use of enhanced recovery can also be categorized as tertiary oil recovery, which is also referred to as quaternary oil recovery.

Oil recovery technology
Domestic and foreign research more and relatively mature, with good prospects for the three oil recovery technology, there are the following three aspects.
1. Thermal oil recovery technology
(1) Steam oil recovery technology
① steam throughput oil recovery technology; ② steam drive oil recovery technology
(2) In-situ combustion of oil reservoirs (burning oil reservoirs) technology
2. Gas mixed-phase drive (or non-mixed-phase drive) oil recovery technology
(1) hydrocarbon drive oil recovery
① liquefied hydrocarbon mixed-phase drive oil recovery; ② rich gas drive oil recovery (mixed-phase or non-mixed-phase); ③ poor gas drive oil recovery (mixed-phase or non-mixed-phase)
(2) CO mixed-phase or non-mixed-phase drive oil recovery
(3) nitrogen drive oil recovery.

(2) surfactant drive oil recovery
(3) alkali drive oil recovery
(4) surfactant - alkali - polymer drive oil recovery
